Our Engagement – All Details
I wanted to publish this blog post quite a while ago but so many things kept me from doing so (our baby shower, Christmas etc.). Nevertheless, I didn’t wanna keep from you what I wrote down shortly after our engagement:
I’m currently sitting on the bed of our hotel room and try to write down what happened three days ago. Iqbal is in the gym (normally I go with him but I wanted to finish this blog post first), our little man is playing around in Mommy’s tummy and I’m just sitting here crying because I’m still completely overwhelmed by the huge luck I’m feeling: Our miracle baby is supposed to arrive beginning of next year and the man of my dreams just asked me to marry him. I feel so complete and we will soon be a little family 🙂 There is no bigger luck in the world!
Again moments like these show me that no material things in the world make you as happy as the things that no money in the world can buy! I was already super happy when after our miscarriage beginning of the year I got pregnant again quite quickly and my pregnancy has been so positive so far. But that the man of my dreams just asked to marry me makes everything even more perfect!
Honestly, I didn’t expect him to propose that quickly at all. I thought Iqbal will repeat his brother and will wait until our baby boy has arrived. Even more beautiful or surprising was the moment when he asked me to become his wife. My Mom even asked me a few weeks ago whether I think Iqbal is going to propose to me soon. I answered: “I think he’s gonna take some time but I’m sure it will be even more beautiful!”
So he didn’t take much time but it definitely was even more beautiful! His proposal could not have been more perfect! We are currently in the Maldives which is a real magical place for us. We just love the Maldives and it’s already our fourth time here. For his proposal Iqbal chose the perfect day! Usually we always visit the Maldives in January or February but that was not possible this time because our baby is supposed to arrive then. Usually in November/ December the weather in the Maldives is not that great so the weather has not been that stable this time. However, the day Iqbal proposed the weather was extremely beautiful just like the entire day. I will tell you a bit more about it now:
The day started with a great breakfast in our villa. Afterwards we got ready for a boat trip to a remote island. We had planned to take some nice videos and pictures there and spend the afternoon just by ourselves on the island. A hotel employee of Velaa Private Island who has become our friend was supposed to stay for one hour in order to take some couple shots of us and then we were supposed to have the island all to ourselves. Little did I know what was about to happen there…
When we arrived on the remote island I could hardly believe my eyes because it was to stunning… just like in the commercials 🙂 It was very cute of our resort that they wrote in the sand with blue script “Babymoon”. That was really such a sweet surprise of them so I didn’t think anything about it when Iqbal wanted us to take a few scenes for our babymoon video in front of it. So Iqbal installed our GoPro and handed the hotel employee our camera to film some video clips of us. We filmed a few minutes just some regular scenes on the beach until out of the blue Iqbal went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. You can see how surprised I was in our engagement video:
At first I was completely in shock and turned around. Poor Iqbal told me later that I scared him a bit 😀 I think I just needed a few seconds to realize what had just happened. After a short moment I turned back to him and of course said YES. I also cried like a little baby. I think never in my life have I cried so much. It was definitely the most beautiful tears of joy in my life 😀
By the way the hotel employee didn’t know anything about Iqbal’s proposal plans (only that he was supposed to film a few scenes of us) so he was just as shocked as me 😀 I’m for sure very happy that Iqbal captured the moment on camera which is the most beautiful memory for us (and our future family). Unfortunately I still cannot watch the video without starting to cry again 😀
After one hour the hotel employee left us and we had the island all by ourselves the entire afternoon. It doesn’t get more romantic than that!
Afterwards Iqbal told me that his initial plan (which he had planned already a long time ago) was to propose to me in front of Taj Mahal in India. Our first trip together was to India and India is also the place where we became a couple on November 17th, 2016. We were initially planning to visit India for our two year anniversary but had to cancel it when I got pregnant. Of course a proposal in front of Taj Mahal would have been extremely stunning but his proposal on a remote island in the Maldives was also just perfect!
By the way Iqbal gave me a symbolic ring that day because he wanted me to choose my dream ring myself. That is such a nice gesture because I wanna wear this ring my entire life and I think it’s so nice that we can now select it together now. I’m super excited looking for the perfect ring with him 🙂
After our engagement the day was not over yet. When we got home from the remote island Velaa Private Island surprised us in our villa with the cutest things for our boy. That was so sweet of them and made the day even more memorable for us!
Afterwards Iqbal had organized together with our resort to do a sunset cruise. Also here we had the ship by ourselves, we talked a lof, enjoyed each other’s company and already talked about our dream wedding.
The perfect end to a perfect day was a dinner at a super stunning restaurant by the sea along with the most romantic live music. The weather has been so perfect the entire day so the day of our engagement could not have been any more perfect! Three days afterwards I still find myself in a positive state of shock because I can hardly believe this extreme luck. I think I will need some more time to realize it…
Iqbal and I always made jokes that we are worse than a married couple because since two years we’ve spent 24 hours together almost every day and are almost never separated. I already knew quite early after meeting him (approximately half a year later) that he was the one. However, the feeling that we are engaged now (and will be a married couple soon) is the best feeling in the world! Because for us marriage has always been something really special! I’m Iqbal’s first girlfriend and even though I had a few boyfriends before him Iqbal is the first man I ever said “I love you” to. And he is also the first one I could have imagined a future with. Marriage is a huge commitment to each other and I find it extremely beautiful that we’re going on this road together soon. This makes our already great relationship even more special!
Of course I’m already super excited now to plan our dream wedding together with Iqbal. Should I do a Wedding Q&A (because a few things are already certain)? 🙂
