My Marrakech Travel Guide

My Marrakech Travel Guide

I need to admit: Beforehand I was a bit sceptical and hesitant to visit Marrakech (find out why here). So I would have never thought that I would like it actually so much in the end πŸ˜€

Morocco is a truly magical place! You feel there like in the movie “Arabian Nights” which already happens when you enter the airport. Because already there you recognize this magical vibe πŸ˜€

Unfortunately we only had five days in Morocco. Because this was our first Morocco stay we decided to visit only Marrakech this time. I would have loved to see the desert and the blue city of Morocco as well but unfortunately both places are quite far away from Marrakech. But after our stay we decided to definitely go back to Morocco in order to get to know more of the country. And then we will for sure visit the desert and blue city of Morocco πŸ™‚

Today I wanna tell you what you can all do in Marrakech and where to best stay. Furthermore I wanna give you some secret tips:

Β – What you shouldn’t miss –

Morocco is a very diverse country so you should definitely not spend too much time in the hotel and rather go out and explore! Because the price level is quite low the hotels in Marrakech are often very luxurious which gives a wrong impression of the country though. Because Morocco is a rather poor country. Even more impressive that the colors are all so bright and beautiful there and the entire atmosphere is very positive. You can especially recognize this at the bazaar where in the evening many locals meet, dance, sing etc.. I was really impressed by the various spices, colors, lights and the beautiful dresses which you can all find at the bazaar. So you should definitely visit it while you’re there because it is really an experience!

Also the nightlife in Marrakech has much to offer! We really likedΒ Comptoir des Cotonnieurs and Buddha Bar where you can find several shows (including belly dancers etc.).

– Accomodation in Marrakech –

We stayed in three different hotels in Marrakech. Today I wanna tell you my honest opinion about them:

La Mamounia Marrakech

Our first hotel was the La Mamounia Marrakech which is probably one of the most famous hotels in Marrakech. This is probably related to the fact that many celebrities such as Chiara Ferragni stayed there. The hotel is really beautiful and photogenic. Furthermore, it has a stunning spa and the location is also perfect because it firstly is very close to the airport and secondly it is in walking distance to the city center. The only downside of the hotel is that it is quite crowded. The service however was excellent. Thus, I can recommend staying at La Mamounia Marrakech.

Palais Namaskar

My secret tip for you guys is our second hotel:Β Palais Namaskar. The hotel is located a bit outside of the city center but since taxi rides are so cheap it is not a problem. You can reach the hotel in less than 30 minutes from the city center or from the airport and the hotel even offers several shuttles a day to the city center and back. If you get there you can enjoy complete privacy! The hotel doesn’t have rooms but only villas. Our villa was the most beautiful thing we’ve seen during our entire Marrakech stay. Furthermore, the hotel has the best gym ever! So the location shouldn’t keep you from staying there becauseΒ Palais Namaskar is an absolute dream and you fell like in Arabian Nights. I mean just look at the rooftop terrace πŸ˜€

Amanjena

Our second hotel was Amanjena Marrakech. The hotel is very photogenic and the food there was by far the best we’ve had during our time in Marrakech. The hotel is also a bit closer to the city center which you can reach in only around 15 minutes. Even though the hotel has a lot of potential we didn’t like the rooms so much. Especially the ones without pool are quite shady and not so cozy. However, some hotel guests might enjoy the extra privacy there so you should definitely decide yourself which hotel is best suited for you πŸ™‚

– My Secret Tips for Marrakech –

1) You can find really nice Moroccan dresses at the Bazaar

My boyfriend had the idea (like in India) to get me some nice local dresses. We found two really nice ones at the bazaar in Marrakech. The Moroccan dresses are really beautiful and we took some great shots with them πŸ™‚

2) Definitely go out to eat

The food at most five star hotels is really expensive. Outside of the hotels you can find really good and cheap restaurants where you pay less than 5€ for a nice meals including drinks. Thus, it is definitely worth it leaving the hotel for lunch and dinner.

3) Try out the Moroccan Cuisine

When I travel I always try to absorb as much of the local culture as possible which also includes the local cuisine. Typical Moroccan dishes are for instance couscous or several grilled dishes. The Moroccan food is mostly quite healthy and yummy so you should definitely try it out!

4) Always negotiate

This was in the beginning quite difficult for me but in Morocco it is almost everywhere very common and definitely not rude to negotiate. Whether they are taxi rides, dresses, souvenirs etc. always negotiate!

5) Mingle with Locals

This tip of mine is the most important one. We were so lucky to have local friends in Morocco which showed us the best spots in Marrakech and always negotiated for us πŸ˜€ It is super handy having someone with you who speaks Moroccan although many people speak English. If you speak French this is even better because most people in Morocco speak fluently French. For sure you should mingle with locals in order to get to know more about the country and the people there πŸ™‚

Morocco moreover Marrakech is a real magical and wondeful place so you should definitely see it at least once in your life. We absolutely loved our time there and we will definitely be back soon πŸ™‚
