08 Aug My Top 10 Travel Tips for Santorini
Hi lovelies,
I’ve just returned from one of my favorite places in the world: SANTORINI. It was already my third time on this beautiful Greek island and again I absolutely fell in love with it. Today I wanna introduce my Santorini Travel Tips to you guys because there is a lot to see and do on this tiny island:
1) Visit Oia
To me Oia is one of the most beautiful places in the world! Many of my pictures on Instagram have been taken in Oia. It is probably the most typical city in Santorini due to its abundance of blue cathedrals etc. You can also watch one of the most stunning sunsets in Oia. However, the city is quite crowded during sunset time. Therefore I have a secret tip for you guys: Get up early and watch the sunrise in Oia. During this time there are only a few photographers and bloggers present and you get some amazing shots. Plus the sunrise in Oia is at least as beautiful as the famous sunset there 😉
2) Walk from Imerovigli to Fira
Fira is the capital of Santorini which is next to Oia also very beautiful! A stunning walk (especially during sunset time) is the one from Imerovigli to Fira. We found it by accident as we stayed in Imerovigli and simply wanted to save taxi costs to Fira 😀 Especially in the beginning of the route there are only very few people present so you get to enjoy many beautiful panoramas (almost) by yourself 🙂
3) Rent a Quad
Especially the cities Oia and Fira are quite far away so it makes sense to rent a quad. Many people do that as it is really so much fun to explore Santorini via quad! We rented one of the most powerful machines for 60€ for 24 hours. This is definitely not cheap but was absolutely worth it!
4) Do a Boat Trip
If you have some more time on Santorini I can recommend you to do a little boat trip. These tours are often not very expensive and you get to experience Santorini from a whole other perspective. Read about the boat trip we did in Santorini here.
5) Visit Santorini’s Beaches
The most stunning beaches on Santorini are supposed to be Kamari Beach, Red Beach and Amoudi Bay. Unfortunately I haven’t tested them myself but if you like swimming in the sea this is a must do for you. During summer time the water temperatures on Santorini are supposed to be really pleasant (and not too cold) 🙂
6) Walk from Oia Harbour up to Oia
For the more sporty travelers I have a great workout tip for you guys: Walk from Oia Harbour (which is very cute btw) up to Oia. There are a lot of steps you need to walk upon so I wouldn’t really call it a “pleasant” hike but the views during it are so dreamy! I can recommend you to do this walk early in the morning or later in the afternoon though otherwise it’s a bit too intense to do this in the heat 😀
7) Don’t visit Santorini alone
This tip may sound funny but I mean it totally seriously: Santorini is one of the most romantic places in the world! There isn’t a very good nightlife present and the island is also not very suited to meet people as mostly couples and families visit Santorini. Being a single traveler I would therefore rather recommend you to visit Mykonos where the nightlife is much better. In my opinion Santorini is mostly suited for couples as it really is one of the most romantic places I’ve ever been at 😀
8) Try out the Local Cuisine
You can find very good restaurants and tavernas on Santorini. Therefore, I recommend you to not book half or full pension in advance but rather to try out the local restaurants and tavernas. You will also save a lot of money this way as hotel food is most of the times more expensive. I for instance love the fresh fish and Greek salads that you get everywhere in Santorni. Don’t miss the breakfast in your hotel though because that is most of the times very good 😉
9) Do the Hike to Skaros Rock
Hiking in Santorini is very good. Due to the various steps you will already stay very active there. However, if this doesn’t challenge you enough you should do the hike to Skaros Rock. You can start it from Imerovigli and enjoy some breath-taking panoramas in between 🙂 You will probably sweat a lot but is is absolutely worth it 😀 Can you spot us in these pics below? 😉
10) Watch the Sunset in Oia
Watching the sunset in Oia is in my opinion an absolute must if you are visiting Santorini. Unfortunately many others will also have that idea so during main season the city is usually very crowded during sunset time. A secret tip of mine therefore is to walk a bit down towards the harbour and watch the sunset. You will still have an amazing view but with way less people. This is also much more romantic than sharing it with tons of other strangers 😉 Otherwise like mentioned above: Get up early and watch the sunrise which will also take your breath away!
Have you ever been to Santorini? And if so: Which did you like there best?
Xoxo
