New Zealand Photo Diary & Travel Tips – Kaikoura incl. Dolphin Encounter

Hi lovelies,

I’m still processing of of the most amazing experience in my life: Yesterday I swam with wild dolphins. The feeling is simply incredible! I’ve dreamed about swimming with dolphins for a long time because it is for instance not possible in the Maldives or Hawaii. And I’m totally against dolphins camps or the captivity of dolphins. Dolphins are such beautiful and playful animals that they definitely shouldn’t be hold captive! So please don’t support this and rather wait like myself for a moment when you can actually swim with them in their own home πŸ™‚ Because it is really the most amazing feeling ever when they swim to you completely on their own will and because they wanna play with you πŸ˜€

We were able to experience this incredible moment inΒ Kaikoura. Kaikoura is a cute little city at the South Island of New Zealand. You should visit it already because of the dolphin encounter πŸ™‚

Accomodation

We stayed at the lovely Surf Watch Cottages while in Kaikours which are really neat. They are managed by a nice couple who are super friendly and give you great travel tips. From your accomodation there is only a short drive involved into the city and the view from some of the rooms is simply stunning! Besides that the cottages are really big and well equipped including a kitchen, large living room, several bathrooms and bedrooms etc. We definitely felt like home there πŸ™‚

Restaurants

If you like FroYoΒ Poppy’s Real Handmade Ice Cream is a perfect place for you. The ice cream is being prepared right in front of your eyes and tastes totally amazing! Definitely the perfect refreshment after a good swim πŸ˜€

What To Do

Like mentioned before the best activity in Kaikoura is theΒ Dolphin Encounter. For those who don’t dare to swim with dolphins you can also just jump on the boat as a passenger and have a look at the dolphins from above. I’ve never seen so many dolphins at one place πŸ˜€ We were told in advance to make some sounds through the snorkel. It felt a bit funny in the beginning but really worked so well in my case that I wouldn’t mind doing that in the end. Hence, I was always surrouned by tons of dolphins πŸ˜€ And I cannot wait to show you the full video of it soon πŸ™‚

Directly after the dolphin encounter we did some Whale Watching. Unfortunately it wasn’t allowed to swim with the whales but it was also great seeing them from above. We were so lucky seeing oneΒ Sperm Whale and several Blue Whales. Blue Whales can get as big as a large passenger machine which is really incredible πŸ˜€ To me is was a premiere seeing sperm and blue whales because we only saw humpback whales just a while ago in Maui (read my blog post here). Whales are simply so big and beautiful animals. Hence, I was super happy getting to experience them in nature πŸ™‚

Overall I really enjoyed Kaikoura! The city is already really beautiful but of course the amazing animals there are definitely worth a visit πŸ˜‰
