10 Groceries that every Fit Foodie should have in the House

Like I’ve recently revealed in my blogpost “Healthy Lifestyle – How it all began”, I’ve been spending lots of time with healthy nutrition. I always recognize on myself after a time of eating lots of unhealthy food how much more energy and power healthy food gives me: My skin and nails are much better, my hair grows faster etc. Hence, I’ve made this list with my favorite healthy food including its health benefits. I’m not a nutritionist so I can only talk about my own experience 😉 Besides that I’m sure I’ve forgotten many healthy groceries. But those were the first ten that came to my mind. All of them are food that I use quite often and always have at home 🙂

Here are my Top 10 healthiest groceries:

1) Coconut oil

Since approx. a year I’ve only been cooking with coconut oil. I do not only use it for sweet meals such as pancakes, crêpes, waffles etc. but also for savoury meals such as meat or fish. Coconut oil has many health benefits: It is rich is essential fatties, it fights bacteria and viruses, it can be absorbed by your body very quickly and much more. And it tastes simply great in my opinion 🙂

2) Chia seeds

Chia seeds are called “superfood” for a reason because they contain many healthy ingredients such as a high amount of omega-3 fatties and nutrients such as calcium, iron, zinc etc. Besides that they contain lots of protein. Find my recipe for chia pudding here. I really like chia pudding because it is super filling and together with fruit really yummy. For those who don’t like chia pudding there are still other great possibilities to use chia seeds: For instance they are a great topping for salads, serve as an egg substitute etc.

One of my current favorite recipes are the “vegan blueberry pancakes” from my healthy cookbook “Clean & Creative Cooking” where egg is replaced by chia seeds. They are really yummy and healthy!

3) Green veggies

Of course all vegetables are healthy but the most healthy ones are all green veggies such as broccoli, kale, spinach. For instance spinach has even more iron than meat. Kale is even considered as the most healthy food ever. No other veggie contains more vitamins and minerals like kale. Broccoli is also super healthy. So overall all green vegetables are really great!

4) Oats

Oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfast ideas. Hence, I cannot get enough of it. Most of the times I use some almond milk, some sweetener, chia seeds, cinnamon and rolled oats. I use normal oats for pancakes or for yummy breakfast muffins (find the recipe in my healthy cookbook).

Oats give you lots of energy through complex carbs. They also contain many vitamins and minerals. Because of those complex carbs they fill you up for a long time. Hence, they can even assist in losing weight.

My favorite superfood is açai. Those that have been following me on Instagram for a whole should know how much I love this fruit. I’ve had açai for the first time in Hawaii and I’ve fallen in love with the taste immediately. Considering that this berry also contains so many great nutrients makes it even more attractive 🙂

Also in Germany you can get açai. It is either frozen or powdered which you can then put in yogurt or in selfmade vanilla pudding (my favorite). Açai is not only delicious is it also super healthy! It belongs to superfood because these berries can assist in slowing down the aging process and speeding up your metabolism. Hence, many fitness foodies love this wonder berry.

For a long time I didn’t like quinoa that much until I’ve discovered red quinoa. It tastes super delicious and is part of my superfood salad. It only consists of kale, quinoa and a yummy dressing. It is really my favorite salad. Quinoa is extremely nutritious, gluten-free, protein rich etc.

8) Vegan milk

Even though I’m not vegan I always try to drink vegan milk. Some cow milk contains hormones which is not the case with vegan milk. My favorite milk in almond milk and I cannot get enough of it. I usually buy unsweetened almond milk and sweet it with some fruit etc. Milk contains lots of calcium and is very important for your bones.

Proteins are extremely important for your body especially for athletic people in order to support muscle growth. I often grab a protein shake after my workouts because I don’t eat much meat or fish. Even better are natural protein sources such as beans, meat or fish etc.
